Earl L. Dominise

Korean War

Earl Dominise was born in Carroll, IA on April 15, 1933, to LaVern and Germaine (Nagl) Dominise. LaVern operated a truck-for-hire business and the family lived in Templeton. The family moved to Halbur in 1947 and then to Carroll a year later. Earl attended Carroll High School but moved to Sterling, CO in 1951. He completed his education there graduating with the Sterling High School class of 1952.

Earl was inducted into the US Army on September 4, 1956, at Omaha, NE. Although living in Sterling, CO, he was still called up through Carroll. He was assigned serial number 55 551 819. His basic training seems to have been conducted at Fort Hood, TX. By November 24, 1956, Earl was transferred to Fort Lee, VA which was the primary quartermaster base in the country. He was assigned to Company A, 2nd Battalion of the Quartermaster School and would have received training in his MOS (military occupational specialty).

On June 4, 1957, Earl was promoted from PVT (private) to PFC (private first class) and returned to Fort Hood, TX. There he was assigned to the 602nd Quartermaster Petroleum Supply Company of the 96th Quartermaster Battalion. This unit would have been responsible for acquisition, storage and distribution of all petroleum products utilized by Army units.

On December 5, 1957, Earl was promoted from PFC to Specialist 4 while at Fort Hood. It is unknown when Earl was discharged from the US Army but it was likely at the end of a two-year enlistment or September, 1958. No indication of movement from Fort Hood has been found. His final rank was Specialist 4.

Earl returned to Sterling, CO where he owned and operated a Conoco station for several years. On October 18, 1969, Earl married Ruth Loose Yack at St. Anthony Church in Sterling. He later worked for a variety of trucking companies including over-the-road driving.

Earl died in Sterling, CO on January 28, 1999 at age 65. He was buried in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Templeton but also has a military grave marker at Riverside Cemetery in Sterling, CO.
