Frank G. Schreck

Frank Schreck was born on October 12, 1892 on a farm between Dedham and Willey. His parents were George and Theresa (Muhr) Schreck, both immigrants from Bavaria, Germany. Frank attended local schools and completed his education at St. Benedict’s College in Atchison, KS in 1915. After completing his coursework, he took a job with Standard Oil in Des Moines. His younger brother Louis also worked for Standard Oil. By the time Frank registered for the military draft in June, 1917, he was employed as a bookkeeper in Coon Rapids. His obituary indicated he was employed by a bank in Dedham before being inducted into the service.
Frank was inducted into the US Army on September 5, 1918, and was listed as a Dedham resident. He was sent to Camp Dodge near Des Moines for basic training. He was next assigned to the 163rd Depot Brigade which was the unit that operated Camp Dodge to receive recruits and provide basic training. The Armistice was declared on November 11, 1918, and on November 13, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. His assignment was in the Adjutant Detachment, 12th Battalion of the 163rd Depot Brigade. He was discharged on February 28, 1919, having spent his entire military experience at Camp Dodge.
Frank returned to Dedham and, along with his brother Louis, founded Templeton Savings Bank in 1923. He was instrumental in the insurance operation of the bank. On October 22, 1928, he married Clara Stangl. He died on July 26, 1948, at age 55 from the effects of a heart attack. He was buried in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Templeton.
