Frank Bruggeman
World War I
Frank Bruggeman was born on May 16, 1894, in St. Mary's, IA (near Indianola) to Herman and Amelia (Roth) Bruggeman. Frank’s parents were married in Templeton in 1888 before moving to Warren County. The family moved back to a farm near Templeton in 1900. Frank was working on the family farm when he registered for the military draft in 1917.
The July 18, 1918, edition of the Carroll Times newspaper included Frank’s name on a list of those recruits that were to be inducted into the US Army on July 26, 1918. Frank had previously applied for an exemption to the draft due to his role of supporting his father. The outcome of that application is unknown and no record has been found of Frank’s military service. The Iowa Gold Star Military Museum also has no record of his service.
Frank lived and worked on the family farm until his parents moved into Templeton in 1927. Frank died on June 1, 1935, at age 41 of a burst appendix. His obituary in the Carroll Daily Herald on June 3, 1935, does not mention any military service. He was buried in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Templeton.
